January 17, 2017

CALL TO ORDER Larry Schweitzer called to order at 6:24 pm
ROLL CALL Larry, Rich Multhauf, Karl Hoeppner present. (Tom Kies excused). Tom Zagar
and Alderman John Engelhardt in attendance.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Pledge recited. Len arrives at 6:27; assumes chairman role.
STATEMENT OF PUBLIC NOTICE Meeting was noticed according to open meeting laws.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES – August 3, 2016
Larry motioned approval, Karl seconds, and carries by all.
VOUCHER APPROVAL None.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
1. Discovery and future management of the invasive algae starry stonewort in Big
Muskego Lake and Bass Bay
Rich noted more SSW than last year. Tom Z noted it died back in mid-summer. It was
treated at launches by Marine Biochemists and Clean Boats Clean Waters inspectors
attended the ramps on part time basis.
2. Current status of lake (water levels, ice, fish, and wildlife)
All noted that although lake ice was generally thick (~11”) there were several areas of
open water or thin ice. It was noted there were3 known instances where ATVs had
gone through ice – all recovered & no known injuries. Len said crappie fishing on Bass
Bay was good and some bigger pike were caught.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Election of Chair and Secretary.
Larry nominated Len as chair, Rich 2nd; Len was unanimously chosen as Chair. Rich
nominated Tom Kies as secretery, Len 2nd, and Tom Kies was unanimous choice for secretary.
2. Discuss Big Muskego Lake presentation of upcoming Shallow Lakes Training
Workshop
Tom Z noted he was to present at a DNR shallow lake conference in Horicon on February 7.
Len was invited to attend to give citizen perspective of BML restoration project.
3. Future project ideas
There was discussion and consensus to conduct Groveway tributary water monitoring, assure
that dike repair was included in upcoming restoration work on Rieger tract of Big Muskego
Wildlife Area, and that DNR should conduct spot control of carp congregations.
