CITY OF MUSKEGO BIG MUSKEGO LAKE DISTRICT DEPUTY COMMISSIONERS MINUTES July 28, 2015 6:15 PM Muckey Room - City Hall W182 S8200 Racine Avenue CALL TO ORDER Len called to order at 6:22 pm. ROLL CALL Len Pilak, Larry Schweitzer, Greg Burmeister, Tom Kies, and Tom Zagar (Staff). Tim Plude and Bob Wakeman of WDNR joined meeting at halfway point. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE All recited pledge of allegiance. STATEMENT OF PUBLIC NOTICE Meeting was noticed in accordance to law. APPROVAL OF MINUTES - July 13, 2015 Meeting Len moved to approve, Tom Kies seconded, carried by all. VOUCHER APPROVAL None. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 1. Discuss the discovery and future management of the invasive algae starry stonewort in Big Muskego Lake and Bass Bay. The invasion of SSW was discussed and how control in the vicinity of the boat ramps would help keep SSW from leaving the lake. While it is understood that chemical treatments will not entirely kill the plant it would help in keeping SSW from growing up and vulnerable to be ing caught on trailers. NEW BUSINESS 1. Discuss the hiring of ramp attendants for the remainder of the boating season. Tom Z presented a plan to hire 2 ramp attendant at 24 hours each through Labor Day then one attendant through mid- October. The attendant’s primary purpose would be education on transport of aquatic invasive species (AIS) but would also likely create greater compliance of payment of launch fees. Larry Sch weitzer stated that he believed all who park at the launch should pay a fee including kayakers, kite surfers, and ice anglers. 2. Recommendation that the Big Muskego Lake/Bass Bay Protection and Rehabilitation District apply for a Wisconsin DNR Early Detection & Response Grant to fund these attendants. Larry moved to approve, Len seconded, and motion carried by all. 3. Discuss and recommend budget for 2016. Tom Z. distributed a copy of the proposed 2016 budget. It is identical to the 2015 budget except that it includes a scenario where we conduct a grant subsidized project to conduct a plant survey and continue ramp monitoring. It shows the receipt of $20,000 in grant revenue for a maximum project expenditure amount of $26,700. 4. COMMUNICATIONS AND ANY OTHER BUSINESS AS AUTHORIZED BY LAW None. ADJOURNMENT Greg moved to adjourn at 6:50 pm.
