NEW BUSINESS
Budget Guide/Goals
Mayor Chiaverotti presented the summary budget guide for review.
Facilities Needs Study Prioritization
Mayor Chiaverotti reviewed the consultant’s recommendation of looking into police building
options first as that has the greater needs. Discussion needs to take place regarding the
options of remodeling with additions or building new.
Alderman Kubacki suggested building a new facility on city owned land on Moorland Road
because it would be centrally located while providing a long term solution. Alderman Borgman
agreed and suggested the current facility be considered for Parks & Recreation along with
incorporating some Public Works functions, possibly fuel storage or contract fuel storage with
the Police Department. Alderman Wolfe would like to consider the remodel and phased
additions option. Alderman Hammel noted the remodel with additions comes at a lower cost to
the tax payers. Alderman Borgman believes the remodel with additions would be a temporary
fix. Long range construction plans of the school district and city should be coordinated.
Alderman Kubacki recommends approaching the options with a long term approach.
Alderman Wolfe interprets the study that everything is good and nothing needs to be done.
The Mayor reminded the committee that while the study notes the city has done a good job in
maintaining the buildings there are other issues outside of maintenance that need to be
planned for. The study is for the purpose of long term planning as a responsible approach.
Mayor recommends a tour of the PD at a COW meeting with the consultant and Chief.
Committee members agree that this will be beneficial.
