Discuss and make recommendation regarding utilization of land conservation funds to assist DNR with a land purchase for Big Muskego Lake State Wildlife Area. Tom Zagar noted that the Finance Committee and Common Council committed $25,000 toward partnering with the Wisconsin DNR in the acquisition of this land and that $25,000 was also sought from the Lake District for a total local participation of $50,000. The group discussed the location of this 100-acre property and its importance in repairing breaches in the dike which separates the lake from an agricultural ditch which can be a source of carp immigration. It was also recognized how acquisition of this property will create a large contiguous area of conservancy and public recreation area. Tom Kies moved to recommend utilizing $25,000 from the Lake District’s land conservation fund to assist DNR with a land purchase for Big Muskego Lake Wildlife Area as shown in Exhibit A. Larry seconded. Greg noted that the approximately $30,000 remains in this fund and would be available should another acquisition opportunity occur in the future. Motion carried unanimously. In further discussion Greg asked what type of building was on the property and what its fate is. Tom Zagar stated that it is a pole barn and that it would be the property of the DNR and they may wish to utilize it or raze it as they see fit.
